System Commentary:
This is a generally weak system, with little impact and almost no depth. A lot of these prospects have one significant flaw that should limit them in the more advanced levels. Most notably, Alex Liddi, Francisco Peguero, Greg Halman, and Matt Cerione have terrible plate discipline, while pitchers Mark Rogers and Trevor Reckling have problems with control. As a result, some of my favorite prospects in the system have limited upside. LJ Hoes likely won't have enough power to carve out an everyday job once he gets to the majors, while Lucas French, Sean Black, and Matt Way all have back of the rotation ceilings. Overall, the Mariners have a disappointing system, and could use a fresh stock of draftees to replenish it.
